Lets talk about ... "Fake" It Till You Make It.

"Fake it till you make it" (also called "act as if") is a common catchphrase that means to imitate confidence so that as the confidence produces success, it will generate real confidence. The purpose is to avoid getting stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy related to one's fear of not being confident...,
.... Wikipedia
I cannot count the number of times i have heard someone use this phrase..
I cannot count the number of times it has been used out of context...
Some folks just do not get it? ... perhaps neither do you? or could it be, i do not get it either?
Lord have Mercy..
I have heard all sort of stories. Ranging from am working night shift at the bank ... to, am doing makeup for a famous movie star visiting the country.. lol.
I have heard it all.. and every time some other person opens their mouth and nothing but ludicrous lies pop out, am like What kind'a fool do you take me for huh? --- really? like i was gonna believe that!!
Sometimes i have played along, just to see how this will pop open and the worms come out of the can.
Other times i have told off people to their faces..because some lies are just ...a low blow really, if you ask me.
It is never that serious people!!
You tell one lie, you have to keep lying to cover up the other lies. Lies have consequences.
"FAKE" It Till You MAKE It, clearly DOES NOT MEAN, making up lies to sound busy, neither does this entail pulling out big names from your "rabbit hat" to sound important or well connected.
*My best bet is those people don't even know you like that*
It does NOT also mean, making up careers/jobs/home addresses/women/men/ a life you know very well, does NOT exist.
----
After reading an article from a website i cannot recall, i think it was FORBES?? Not very sure since i cannot find the article right now, *BUMMER*
Anyway. This was an article about this very topic. The writer could not have said it any better.
In Summary:
Fake It Till You Make It, just like Wikipedia defines it, is an "act as if" kind of thing.
e.g,, You admire Bill Gates.
When you are given a task to carry out, or a job has been assigned to you, you ask yourself "how would Bill Gates carry out a task like this?
in short, you emulate the character traits you like about him and apply it to the way you live your life.
It could be his discipline in keeping time, his articulate nature in the way he handles his projects or his humility in general etc etc.
You get the point?
HOWEVER..
Some may argue, the imposter syndrome will help boost your confidence. Help you rid yourself off negative thinking. Help you conquer your fears... blah blah blah.
It is still living a lie. \O/
My take on it is:
You use what you have to make up for what you do not have and/or use where you are, to get to where you want to be - HONESTLY.
