GOD SPOKE

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
English Standard Version (ESV)
By Henry Lee Battle

i didn't expect to hear from God so soon...
as i got down on my knees and prayed with a mixture of both common words and the tongues of the heavens,
casting my burdens upon HIM.
As the man of God took the pulpit that Sunday morning,
speaking words uncommon in his Sunday suit,
God spoke.
He spoke of how he had delivered me.
Of how i should not get down on my knees and in his name speak of that situation again, for it was done.
Of how he had stirred my bitter waters and now nothing but sweet springs flow through my city set upon the hill.
The Lord had spoken.
He had called my situation by name and birth date.
How i could i not respond?
And yet i did not!
I did not acknowledge it was i.
I did not respond when the man of God asked us to stand up for the laying of hands.
For the deliverance over that situation.
How could distress feel so familiar?.. so friendly? .. so right?

SHORT STORY II

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.  ― Albert Einstein
-----------------------
I Digress a little .. TGIF! The smell of freshly cut grass permeates through the office windows.
I loooove the smell of freshly cut grass!! Makes me want to take off my shoes run outside and dive into that mound of freshly cut grass. Roll in it until the little girl in me is satisfied. *sigh*
Short Story II.

AN INTERVIEW, A MIRACLE
Finally it was here.
She had waited on this for too long.
Having worked as an intern for two long years, doing all sorts of intern duties including baby-sitting the reception, a task she was never comfortable with.
The time had come and the interviews had been scheduled.
"Thank You Lord!" was all she could manage from the bottom of her greatful heart. As words failed her.
She went on a reading spree. Gathering all relevant and necessary information about her roles and duties from the past two years, the company background and all information pertaining to her area of specialization.
Interviews are never easy. Especially considering this was her very first interview.
On the morning of the big day, She came dressed to occupy that vacancy. Leaving nothing to chance.
She came in an hour earlier. To settle down, do some last minute reading and go through her checklist to put her documents in order; which She remembered were tacked away safely in an envelope, in her office locker.
She confidently pulled open the locker and to her amazement, the envelope was empty. With less than an hour left before the interview.
She made frantic calls home, asking the help to turn the house upside down in order to find the missing documents. Nothing was found.

A SHORT STORY

“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
Stephen King
For the last week and half, i have been burying my head in literature.
I am currently reading "The Thing Around Your Neck, By Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie". It's a collection of short stories written with such poise.Captivating to say the least.
Books have the power to take you everywhere. I am there. That place where paper meets pen.
I was inspired to write a short story. Too short infact, it has no ending.(lol).

Here we go:

'On the morning of my miracle i did not wear high heels. Neither did i put on bright eye makeup nor lipstick.
I waited patiently in line for my testimonial, the story of my journey through faith and how God turned my trials to a testimony.
Of, how he gave me beauty for ashes, and strength for fear. How he turned my mourning into gladness. Of, my tear stained face in-between midnight prayers.
On the morning of my breakthrough all i could do was sing praises, songs of gladness.
I thought about my times of distress that had led me to this point.
I thought about all those people who had looked down upon me and what they would say of me now.
I smiled in triumph.
I thought about all those dreams i had written down and shelved.
All those 'impossible' purchases and destinations and how i could make them possible now.
I looked over my shoulder to peek at the people in line. I thought of their stories too and if they felt the same way as i did.
We were all here and had battled familiar demons. Our stories had similar underlying tones.
It was time to receive our badges of honor. For our time had come.
My name was called out and i approached the counter.
“I am sorry. We have a slight problem”. He spoke from behind the counter.
“Excuse me ?” I responded with shock registered in my voice.
'Your records appear to be missing. Excuse me a moment, as i confer with my supervisor.' He said apologetically.
'Noooo! It can not be.' I whispered a silent prayer as I bow my head in desperate submission.

At that moment, i wished i had put on some makeup. A little foundation to cover the look of fear on my face. A touch of mascara to disguise the sparkle of tears forming at the corners of my eyes.
I should have worn high heels too. To stand tall in the midst of all the heart wrenching suspense.
THE END
